Ashley sets out on music career
Ashley Bruce has set out on a musical career only months after suffering a massive brain haemorrhage which threatened his life. Ashley, aged 25, whose music is pop/rock orientated was lying in an intensive care bed this time last year. But after nearly losing his life he decided to really plunge himself into his music. The former Launceston College student, a song writer for many years, has always dreamed of success. Ashley, who underwent 20 hours of brain surgery, says he not only clung to life but his music. Despite all the odds he has successfully re-learned to speak, swallow and play his guitar. His health problems and his determination to succeed have amazed both family and doctors. Ashley is determined to encourage others in a similar position. As a result, he now actively supports the work of Headway International, a brain injury charity. Last year he wrote and brought out a CD for thecharity - "The Man Inside My Head." Ashley says his music is aimed at the commercial market and describes it as fresh. "This time last year I was in intensive care," he said. "My turnaround has been incredible. "I now have a new zest for life. I desperately want to get to the top of the mountain. You only get one life, so let's go for it," added Ashley. Surgeons were "flabbergasted" by his recovery and use him and his music as an example to people who find themselves in a similar position not to give up.
