Songs from inside his head
It’s normally a long trek on the road to pop stardom, but for Burgess Hill's Ashley Bruce getting there is just part of the fun. The Middy has been fol¬lowing Ashley's career since we first reported, in May, how a near-death experience changed his life forever. Ashley (pictured), 28, from Shotters, suffered two brain haemorrhages and had four life-threatening brain operations last year, carried out at Hurstwood Park. Since his recovery, Ashley, a former salesman, has thrown himself in to a singing and songwriting career. He releases his second CD single, The Man Inside My Head, next month. An album, Left At The Lights, containing 11 self-penned songs, is due out in the next year, and a concert at the Martlets Hall is also on the agenda. Though he is still seeking a record deal, interest has been shown by several labels and Ashley has found himself doing a round of radio and television interviews, telling his unusual story. "In some ways I am going in through the side door of the record business but that's fine if it interests the big record companies," he said. "All the tracks I am recording at the moment are very commercial and main¬stream. I am hoping it is just a matter of time before the right ears get to hear what I am doing." Proceeds from The Man In¬side My Head will go to Hurstwood Park. As Ashley says: "The help and support I received there has helped me make an excellent recovery. I owe them so much."
